AMERICAN PSYCHIATRIC ASSOCIATION MAKES IT OFFICIAL: ‘SELFIE’ A MENTAL DISORDER

Mona Lisa selfie

About a couple of months ago there was a fake article published online which many people took to heart. The article basically claimed that The American Psychiatric Association (APA) had officially confirmed that taking ‘selfies’ was a mental disorder during its annual board of directors meeting in Chicago. The disorder was named “selfitis” and was defined as the obsessive compulsive desire to take photos of one’s self  and post them on social media as a way to make up for the lack of self-esteem and to fill a gap in intimacy. Though there was no cure there was a temporary treatment available through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which is covered under Obamacare. Yup you read that right.

The three levels of selfitis according to this article were:

  • Borderline selfitis : taking photos of one’s self at least 3 times a day but not posting them on social media
  • Acute selfitis: taking photos of one’s self at least 3times a day and posting each of the photos on social media
  • Chronic selfitis: Uncontrollable urge to take photos of one’s self  round the clock and posting the photos on social media more than 6 times a day.

|

Now my question for you is will “Selfitis” be a future disorder?

beautifull💞

Though this article may have been claimed as fake with the way our generations are so active and dependent on social media, pop culture idols, and trends could we or are we already heading in that direction.  If you think about it we have all been brainwashed at certain point  and played a huge part into what we know as selfies. We have to document a night out, what you ate, what’ youre doing, what you are planning to do its a constant natural thing to do now from the time you wake up to the time that you go to sleep. We are most active on social platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and etc. It’s not that is a bad thing to do but how far can the selfie obsession go? For God sakes we already  have to have our selfie sticks in hand.

I am a constant Instagram uploader myself  and its addicting. I don’t post photos of myself all of the time sometimes I upload quotes, music, celebrities, and other things but it is an addictive almost consuming. So guilty as charged haha but at the same time its like subsconcious thing though I do it for the fun of it all. As I let my mind sink in these questions I started to observe the social behaviors and body language of how the people around me as well as on my social media platforms acted. How many times did they took selfies each day? How many did they upload that day? How many selfies did they took before they actually chose one to their preference to upload? Why did they choose not keep the other selfies before that? How did it affect them emotionally? Were they mad at how they looked, did they find it pretty, ugly, double chin, lighting? What?

We are part of the problem. 😕The truth is after all the observation I gathered my conclusion is  that is not a mental disorder per say. Its more of a society mental disorder. The way society are trying to follow trends and make trends happen its ridiculous its like if you don’t follow everyone’s step into what is hot then you are an outsider. Peer pressuring people into join these platforms where you have to prove yourself to others. (Ex.hey i can be better than you or i can do the same as you by posting things from your daily life). You may agree to disagree and I completely understand that but it really opened my eyes  to the fact that we focus so much on the selfish selfies we take wether we do it because we say its for ourselves but in reality we are  trying to somehow seek the praising (approval) from others when honestly don’t have to. It has become a cultural phenomenon  as human we desire—to feel noticed, appreciated and recognized. It all comes down to individual’s self esteem and are you going to keep taking selfies to that new level where it will take over of who you are as a person. Will we move forward as individuals to live life to the fullest without having to feel the need to be approved for all the time. Be confident and focus on having fun and trust that you are worth more than a thousand selfies and other’s like, comments, follows or etc.

So are we Selfie Mental Disorder or True “Selfies”?

Stay happy, positive vibes, and love much. #loveyour(self)first

Music Festivals Ban Selfie Sticks

festival

Anyone who has been to a music festival knows maintaining personal space is not an option. Trust me I can tell you from personal experiences where I have gotten shoved, walked on almost, and thrown sideways thanks to the people fighting next to me. Like seriously can’t we just enjoy the damn music?

Well speaking of getting your personal space invaded by idiots, this summer’s most highly anticipated music festivals are taking a stand against selfie sticks. Both Coachella and Lollapalooza are banning selfie sticks and other GoPro attachments. Australia’s Soundwave Festival and several UK music venues including the O2 Arena, SSE Wembley Arena and O2 Academy Brixton have also joined in agaisn’t selfie sticks.

festival

Too bad they won’t do the same at theme parks here in Orlando. Seriously every five steps there is someone with a selfie stick stopping in the middle of your pathway taking a group selfie….wait for it… vacation groups of 30 or more. Yup! So if you are planning on going to any of these huge music festivals make sure to read what you are allowed in and time to take your old school camera and selfies. Although you can choose to actually pay attention for your money’s worth to every performance that hits the stage instead of taking photos of your flower crown and Kylie Jenner’s lips.

Kylie

Listen I love selfie sticks when I am with a group of friends hanging out but a couple of minutes not as a whole day thing. Now I love the idea of having a selfie stick or a GoPro for concerts and festivals if you are really short like me and you can’t see crap. But at the same time I understand how annoyed I get when I have someone in front or behind me with a selfie stick in small amount of personal space. I feel invaded and with the amount of heat we get here in Orlando on the summer time I would hate to be in a music festival with sweaty people touching my skin as they take a selfie. Imagine trying to enjoy a performance by Hozier or Fall Out Boy and have someone in front of you with a selfie stick in the middle of your favorite performances not letting you enjoy watching your singers or bands. I would and will throw a fit with how expensive these tickets are, are you kidding?  And the reasoning for this action :selfie sticks obscured the view for other people in the crowd, noting the increased amount of sticks in the crowd in music festivals. Like some people like to call them selfish sticks.  Because they make you take up a lot more space in a crowded place than you should invading other people’s personal space.

What are your thoughts?

New School Bullies: Natalia Kills & Willy Moon

New Zealand’s The X Factor judges, Natalia Kills and Willy Moon, were let go from the show after bullying contestant Joe Irvine on the show Sunday night. Wow did Natalia Kills really disappointed me with her actions but her husband not so much you can tell he has an ego. Yes I called him out because its true. She must be blindly in love. Who would have thought such a beautiful talented singer would be so dark, evil, and a bully?

Joe performed “Cry Me A River” on the show looked super handsome and delivered a beautiful performance. But not everyone’s likes apparently as the British singer Natalia called him a doppelganger of her husband Willy and attacking the contestant with her words as I quote:

“As an artist who respects creative integrity and intellectual property, I am disgusted at how much you have copied my husband, from the hair to the suit,” she said. “Do you not have any value or respect for originality? You’re a laughingstock. It’s cheesy, it’s disgusting. I personally found it absolutely artistically atrocious I am embarrassed to be sitting here having to even dignify you with an answer of my opinion”

Meanwhile her husband and fellow judge also joined in adding fuel to the fire with comments like  “To me it feels a little bit cheap and absurd. I mean you’re like Norman Bates dressing up in his mother’s clothing its just a little bit creepy and I feel like you’re going to stitch someone skin to your face and the kill everybody in the audience BUT do you!

Where to Natalia added “I am going to say it it was absolutely disgusting. You have no identity I’m ashamed to be here”

” I think you look good because you’re dressed like my husband” to which by this point Mel another one of the judges was the only one to intervene and defend Joe. Joe on the other hand received support from famous superstars Lorde, Ed Sheeran, and many more. Of course his amount of supporters throughout the world also escalated quite quickly. Later Natalia apologized for her actions blaming the production staff for making up controversy and dialogue for ratings. The couple fled New Zealand right after the show and leaving everyone to wonder who would replace them. Due to the amount of controversy aroused MediaWorks who is the broadcaster that airs X Factor and its Chief Executive Mark Weldon announced the two’s departure from the show Monday in a statement to New Zealand’s The Hits.

The statement released reads:

“Contestants put their all into this competition and they should expect to receive feedback and criticism that is professional and constructive,” he said. “We no longer have confidence that Kills and Moon are the right people to perform the role of X Factor judges and they will leave the show, effective immediately.”

The new judges added to the panel are Australian recording artist, actress, and television personality Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Shelton Woolright drummer of British rock band I AM GIANT. Here is to wishing the best of luck to both judges, all of the contestants, and may the best one win.  Remember to have ZERO tolerance for bullies they can come in all shapes, sizes, and apparently in singers who are so talented but so ugly inside.

See the whole controversy on the video below:

XO,

Ariana Grande in Apocalyptic War Over “OLT” Video.

Music is bound to repeat itself just like fads in the fashion industry. Everything comes and go and originality is never truly original its always inspired by a motif. But that’s not exactly the thought on everyone’s mind.

Canberra indie band SAFIA had accused Ariana Grande’s Team of copying their video. On Monday, the band took to their social media SAFIA  Facebook Page and wrote:
safia

artworks-000090750297-xysory-t500x500

BAND-PROFILE-SAFIA

SAFIA’s music video for “You Are The One” released on September of 2014 opens with a static introduction and opening credits with a young woman getting out of a car who seems distressed and running down a street full of people in an what resembles an apocalyptic scene  under a purple meteor shower.  The video also closes with the woman kissing a man while meteor showers surrounds them ultimately causing an explosion around them and end of scene.

arianasafira Ariana Grande 11

Ariana Grande’s  music video for “One Last Time” which was released just a day ago follows almost the same script with the only difference they added more obstacles  while she runs through the crowd and it almost looked like a quarantine in the midst of the end of the world. She also has a purple tone like effect on the sky and she also kisses her boyfriend at the end of the video with an explosion around them at the end of the video.

ariana-grande-previews-apocalyptic-one-last-time

And of course this was not an easy pill for Arianators to read as they responded immediately all over social media defending Ariana Grande’s music video with angry backlash. But SAFIA fans supported the group by also leaving comments on their wall and screenshots of why they were so upset with Grande’s video.

Max Landis, who is the director behind “One Last Time” took to Twitter to defend his work from the masses:

max landis

But both of these music videos are very close to the same apocalyptic ideal for another band whose music video looks very similar. So in the end who is copying who?  I’ll leave all three videos here and let you decide. Feel free to leave comments down below and let me know your thoughts.

Last and not least SAFIA wanted to make sure they cleared the air out with everyone with these final words.

Its just “Depression” right? – Educate yourself please.

Hi guys so today I decided to really just write this post on something that its more on a personal point and not so much on fashion or music, though it is related to one of the most recent and latest entertainment news on the loss of Robin Williams. This post is about raising awareness and understanding an illness like depression and how it could lead to serious choices. These type of things I really don’t like really talking about often but I think that is the same reason why it keeps happening. Because people keep ignoring depression and mental illnesses and passing along the lines of being dramatic, crazy, you don’t what you’re talking about. But it really is way more than that its not a lifestyle that you choose its something that really does affect you emotionally, physically, and that is when things get real and scary. I think society is definitely a big influence on these type of things too but I’ll get into that later as we go on.

depression

As most of you should know by now it is believed that Williams’s death was because he apparently committed suicide following from a severe depression. I am not here to judge anyone’s choices or what they do with their life but it is so sad to see someone so beautiful, kind, talented, and joyful go in such a horrible way because of an illness that is so cruel to many.  We have seen a lot of Hollywood stars sadly commit suicide in many different ways, we have also heard of those who also struggle with substance abuse, eating disorders, depression, and mental illnesses. From Heath Ledger, Amy Winehouse, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and so many more. But is not only celebrities that are the ones struggling but also people like you and i, individuals who live in the same neighborhood as you or in your school, church, at work, and so on.

I am so saddened to see so many people pointing fingers, judging, and commenting on how weak could that person be, or even bullying them after they are gone rather than trying to understand if this could have been prevented. I really don’t understand how many people are out there who still think that depression, mental illnesses, suicide, or any other disorders are a game. This is serious and the first way to prevent more of these tragedies are by trying to understand one another, with love, compassion, communication, and helping them out.

Did you know that 1 in 4 people suffer some sort of mental health problem.

Emptiness-depression-33252846-479-494

Stop judging why someone is the way they are, the way they dressed, talk, look, appearance, or what they have or don’t have. You don’t know their story and everybody has one. So before you point fingers take a look at your own life. Not a lot of people are blessed to have half of the things you may have or etc so why not share the blessings that you do have with them. If you see someone down, angry, upset sometimes its good to give them their space but its also good to talk with them  or if you are the one feeling frustrated talk or write it out. When you hold things in it can really tear you apart even more. A good friend of mine told me draw, sing, compose, write, do whatever you want but let it out and its true. Use your talents or whatever makes you feel at peace like listening,or expressing it in music.

From a personal point I can definitely tell you that everyone at least once or twice in their lifetime they will go through a phase where they are depressed or think they have lost it all.  But you need to start counting your blessings and not your flaws. There are days you feel frustrated like you are losing your mind or sometimes everything you had planned don’t go right. But you have to let the down falls make you strong and pick yourself up.

I know its hard, I know its not easy and its the reason why I want people to understand that the people who go through an illness like this or have thoughts of taking their own lives they are not weak. It takes a really strong mind to say I want to end this I have no way out or even to think that those are the only choices left for them to have. They are not doing it for attention, or anything like that. If someone wanted to do it they would, no question asked. I am not encouraging any harm of actions at all. I am just saying its an illness that needs to be taken very seriously and before you comment or speak the words “selfish”, “weak”, “idiotic”, “dramatic” or “waste of talent” think about what if you or a loved one was the one with such illness. How would you feel? How it would affect you? Your loved ones? Your dreams?

Though, I will never understand why would someone be so selfish and so low to even be a bully to someone even after they have committed such tragedy. It really just comes to show that really the weak one’s are the one who sit behind a computer screen commenting/criticizing instead of educating themselves and thinking how they could make a difference on someone else’s life that is slowly fading. I am not here to preach but i do hope that whoever is reading this whether you are the weak one’s (bullies), the soul who is seeking for an answer, or the families and friends who can’t understand or get any consolation to this illness to give yourself a chance to educate yourself, to understand, to give yourself a chance and somehow cope with a situation like this.

There is a purpose in this life for all of us, YOU are the light within the darkness. If you want to see a difference in your life take it one step at a time and BREATHE. Don’t let the struggles of life and the negativity take the strong, happy, extraordinary, beautiful, dreamer, talented individual YOU ARE. Life is made out of struggles and if life was easy it wouldn’t be called life. I know it sounds cliche but its so true. It may be a bad day but not a bad life. Please if you feel like your drowning in thoughts open your heart and seek the goodness in it, communicate with someone that will listen to you (God? Beliefs? Family Members? Friends? Psychologists?) the options are never ending. If you need prayer or if you feel like you need to talk to someone I’m here too because I have been there one way or another. I myself have dealt with depression maybe not at the same level as some of you but everyone does I promise. You are NOT alone!

And on a final note I would like to end with this I really think people should really think and educate themselves before they speak. People should never need to made feel worse for suffering from something that its beyond their control. And people should never make the families feel bad either for having someone go through it either. Because at the end of the day we are all humans, we all make mistakes, we all need chances to figure out who we really are, we all live, and breath the same way we need to love one another and support each other. 🙂

Zoe Saldana Expecting?

Zoe Saldana is rumored to be a couple of months pregnant. And if this is true that will be one beautiful baby! It’s all I am saying.
The Avatar star got married to an Italian artist Marco Perego last June. They are both 36 years old and rumors have persisted that the couple want to start a family soon. She recently arrived to “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to promote her latest film “‘Guardians of the Galaxy.” where she suddenly stopped and turn around from cameras while touching her stomach. Hmm.

Instagram -

The actress has yet to comment or confirm if she is expecting or not but time will tell. Although, she has been wearing a lot of loose fitted clothes, we have recently seen her in a tight fitted high-waisted skirt on her official Instagram page and you could see a barely noticeable “baby bump”. But it could also just be the fabric of her skirt. Who’s to tell? Meanwhile, there are also her casual outfits while on a recently grocery shopping spree and the latest video I mentioned above .

Zoe Saldana could be expecting here are some of her latest looks.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: MEET ROSEMARY GERMAN.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: MEET ROSEMARY GERMAN.

One thing I can say right of the bat is that humility is the first thing I admire of any artist and upcoming artist. I believe that you can be as talented as Celine Dion but if you have a nasty attitude it won’t gain you many friends in the long run. Any industry specially in entertainment you will eventually come along to meet many of those nasty attitudes but when you come across a humble and artistic soul is rare; just like when I met Rosemary German. This lovely young lady was a participant in a talent search here in Orlando, FL.
As I was backstage she simply asked me kindly if I could help her out with her wardrobe before hitting the stage. She had a very nice smile and was very polite on and off the stage. Ever since then I was blessed to be able to have the opportunity to getting to know her even more as a person, friend, and most importantly as an artist.

When you have the opportunity to watch Rosemary take on the stage and perform she makes you feel the emotion in each and every lyric of her songs. Which is one of the most important quality for every artist to have but not everyone has. It is with no surprise that she has been exposed to music since her childhood years. As growing up she was exposed to the music that played on the radio, musical toys plus her father owned a bandoneon who he played every morning so all of these factors definitely took control. What it is surprising though, is that at the age of eight years old she began singing and playing the guitar at her school and church choir. But by the age of nine years old she wrote her first song called “Los Niños de La Calle” (Children of the street). And ever since then she knew very early in her life that she loved music and that she had to pursued it.

If you are wondering what has inspired her music this is what Rosemary had to say:

“My music is inspired by life itself. I write about what happens to me, and what I see going on around me with my friends, family, and strangers. I am also inspired by the things that happen in novels, movies, and anything that makes me feel a strong emotion, whether anger, sadness, joy, much love or heartbreak. I put music to all my emotions, I’m a big romantic. My parents always heard boleros of the 80s and I grew to love that kind of music, so my songs can never miss a guitar and a touch of romanticism like the one present in the songs of yesterday.”

As far as her demo she wants to be able to share her music with the world, and hopes it takes her where her songs need to be heard. Where her lyrics can be of encouragement to someone else as when she was going through at the times when she was in a similar situation when composing them.

Which is one of the major reasons why her fans can definitely relate to her music because she is very honest and clear in her songwriting. The best thing about her is that she has no fear of rejection therefore she pours all her feelings out on paper, whether its her story or someone else’s. Its easier for her fans to identify with her music because and I quote her as it was by far one of the most honest answers I have seen expressed this way: ” We are all equal, we all have dreams, we all make mistakes, we fall, we get up, we fall in love, suffer for love and in the end we all have the same problems or blessings at one time or another.”

Meanwhile, as we kept talking more about her demo I asked if there are any songs or any in particular that could be her favorite pick. She stated clearly that it was very difficult to try to choose one as each of her songs are so full of depth and raw emotion from the moment she wrote them that is very hard to pick one out. “My songs are my babies and I love them all equally” she said.

When I asked her about her favorite experience in her music career so far she said that is very fortunate every day to a have a new favorite experience. “People say life is a roller coaster, and I am enjoying mine completely with its ups and downs. It’s not the goal that counts, but the experiences we have on the way there. Music has many facets and I enjoy them all; when I’m composing, working in the studio, when I’m promoting, and when my work is being recognized. If I had to choose one of them all, I would say composing it’s my favorite one.”

Another strong trait about Rosemary is that she is driven. She is not the type of person who needs to be pushed to do anything, but every time has wanted to achieve a goal her family was there helping her to achieve it. Her family and friends have always been there to support her in every one of her journeys and will continue to do so as much as they can.

As a composer herself she has also been inspired in her songwriting skills by legends like Franco de Vita, Jose Luis Peralez, Roberto Carlos, Rosanna and Ricardo Arjona. “They all are complete artists in every way and theirs songs are an exquisite ride to heaven. I want the people to feel with my music the same way I feel when I’m listening to their music.”

As far as her wildest collaboration, she would love to collaborate with Franco De Vita as she proclaims it would be a dream come true. “He is a master of Latin music and it would be my greatest fortune to be able to work with him.” Meanwhile, another of her biggest dreams is to be able to sing at the “Viña del Mar Music Festival” which is one of the biggest music festivals in the Latin industry. Another of her dream would be to be able to open up for Juan Luis Guerra, who is another of her favorite songwriters. Because he is an artist in every sense of the word and the biggest singer-songwriter that her country the Dominican Republic has had so far, and being able to open up one of his concerts would be a great honor.

I also made sure to ask her if she still get nervous or butterflies in her stomach before a show, being that she has been singing since she was younger and she said:
“I feel an adrenaline rush just before going on stage, thinking that it is time and I can’t back out, I have to walk out the door and give the best of me. But the truth is I don’t feel nervous, because I practice a lot before any show and when the day comes I only give myself to God and ask him to make the moment be whatever he wants and to shine on me. I ask him to make my music inspire others and bring a smile and happiness to their faces. After that I leave confident that everything will be alright because things are going to happen as he would want them”.

Things you should be ON THE LOOKOUT for is that right now she is working on her new single that will be coming out soon. So make sure you keep track of her music on her social media so you can stay tuned and get the song as soon as it becomes available.

I also played my round of FUN FACTS with ROSEMARY and this are some awesome ones for her future fans to know 😉

What embarrassing songs might I find on your MP3 player?

Rosemary:
I would say all of them, lol, I am very old-school, but I am proud to be among the few who truly enjoy the songs of yesterday. I have music from Los Panchos to Julio Iglesias, a whole variety of very romantic songs.

Have you ever thought of the fact that If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing?

Rosemary:
Yes I have, I went to college to study architecture trying to please other people. Everyone used to advise me to study something other than music, just in case music did not work out. So when it was time to go to college well I chose architecture. I do not regret having gone to college. Because I learned many things there, but I regret not having studied my passion, which is music. Trying to be something I’m not was the worst decision I’ve ever made, I just wasted time, money, and ended up with a deep depression. So one day I told my family I couldn’t do it anymore, and I’d rather be dead than continue trying to live a life that was not where I belong. I was born a musician and a singer-songwriter, and that’s what I’m going to keep doing although some may not like it. That same day I left college and my family has had to accept me with my music, as there is no other vocation that makes me happier than this.

If you could dabble in another genre of music, what would it be?

Rosemary:
I have always thought that had I been born in the United States of America I would’ve been a Big Band singer of traditional pop-jazz, I think my voice goes perfect with that music and I just love it.

Do you have any hidden talents you would like to share besides signing, and playing the guitar?

Rosemary:
Apart from music I like to help people. I think that helping others is a talent that not everyone has inside. It takes courage and bravery to not only hear about the problems someone has and say you understand, but also care enough to say look, I’m going to help, and this is what we can do to improve your situation. I grew up thinking everyone would like to help others in a difficult situation, and eventually I realized that’s not the case. So, to help people is a divine gift God gave me.

Since this is a fashion and music blog: What fashion trends or style has in influenced your personal style?

Rosemary:
I am very simple, I wear what suits me and is comfortable, I don’t care about brands and don’t obsess with accessories. I come from a very humble neighborhood in the Dominican Republic where there is much poverty, so I just spend money on necessities.
To be honest I don’t like shopping and I don’t have much knowledge of fashion, but I really hope someday I can pay a personal stylist to put together my every day outfit. It will be awesome to finally be trendy. 🙂

Please show love and support to Rosemary! It has been a tremendous joy to see her evolve even more. Thanks for taking time for Evetzie’s Repertoire Readers!
