A letter from the heart

As most of you know I work in the entertainment and fashion industry. As I sat in my studio today designing, and also working in other projects I got a little frustrated and had to stop. Breath some fresh air and continued what i was working on. As you all know music is one of my biggest passions but as I karaoke my heart out to new music from my favorite singers it hit me people don’t value any kind of artistry very much. Which is something that I have always felt deep inside my heart and I know cause I have seen it first hand. I have helped, worked, seen start up artist’s, musicians, painters, writers, designers, and etc like myself struggle in the midst of our passions and career.

So when people complain about paying a certain price for like a concert ticket, design, or anything creative and artistic it makes me want to  tell them to go to neverland and never come back. Do you know how hard are the struggles for a person that loves and has a passion for any kinds  art or any musical artistry. Which is why I believe with all my heart we should give credit when credit is due. So before you speak to me ever about how ridiculous it is for something like music, design, or art to be so expensive remind yourself all these things I will mention next.

As an artist one the financial cost : You have to pay everything yourself including being your own manager, promoter, everything when you are starting out. You really make close to nothing;it takes a while to start getting all the goods. And by “a while” I don’t mean a few months. It could take years and years until someone else in labels or talent managers see your vision. It takes studio time  which are not cheap, recording, producing, editing, mastering and more. Once you have made it touring is expensive a whole crew from loading, production, wardrobe, dancers, riggers, traveling, Visas, Passports, Insurances, all the legal aspect of  it too, and so much more you can’t begin to even wrap your head around it all. There’s so much more not to even mention when it comes to recording sessions, rehearsals, planning, songwriting, record labels, promoting team, royalties. Plus during the tour life the crew in the arena listen to the stage and technical managers to work on trusses  which what hold all of the lights, speakers, and pyros sometimes takes about 30 local workers, 4 tour riggers, and with very limited hours for example 5 or less to accomplish everything before the show starts. Staging has to be assembled piece by piece. You have screens that have to be hung in flawless placements. All of the technical detail features for the band. Last minute sound check before every show all in less than a day and hours for a perfect show. This is not including all the other backstage chaos and crew that is behind the scene, on or off stage, runners, costume designers, assistants, makeup artist’s, hair stylist, wardrobe specialists, seamstresses, dancers, management, special guests, other bands, security team, and etc.  So much planning, efforts, emotional, and budgeting goes into every album, every tour, everything artist do. It takes a whole team not just the lead singer or solo artist to make a show or album what it is. That is why royalties are so important and are rights that artist’s fight for when it comes to  streaming platforms that make things free to people but then the people who are working their asses for it don’t really see a cent from it and its not fair.

Two as a designer  that is art as well you can’t expect something that is one of a kind unique or amazing craftmanship for a low budget. Chanel, Alexander Mcqueen, all these great designers and even your local designers at home that work independently did not work their asses off their whole life tailoring, draping, workshops,  and etc  to get paid like department store. Not happening! While in tour life you also have from prop designers, costume designers, choreographers, stage managers all of these amazing individuals that come together as a team to make everything happen.

Three: Painters, Dancers, Poets, Writers, Actors are all amazing at what they do and deserve the same of respect as every other career out there. We do it, because we love it and we cannot see ourselves doing anything else but it. Any kind of art you should embrace it and it should make you move whether its your soul, your style, or whatever fancies you. But don’t ever let it die. Support your local artist they are the ones that needed the most. And support songwriters and locals that are starting up because that is the hardest part of all. Not when you are already successful and selling out arenas.

To all of those who are starting out and even note to self at times is never give up, believe in the power of your dreams, and everything comes at perfect timing no matter how many time the iron strikes hot. To the world changers!!

love always,

E

Music Festivals Ban Selfie Sticks

festival

Anyone who has been to a music festival knows maintaining personal space is not an option. Trust me I can tell you from personal experiences where I have gotten shoved, walked on almost, and thrown sideways thanks to the people fighting next to me. Like seriously can’t we just enjoy the damn music?

Well speaking of getting your personal space invaded by idiots, this summer’s most highly anticipated music festivals are taking a stand against selfie sticks. Both Coachella and Lollapalooza are banning selfie sticks and other GoPro attachments. Australia’s Soundwave Festival and several UK music venues including the O2 Arena, SSE Wembley Arena and O2 Academy Brixton have also joined in agaisn’t selfie sticks.

festival

Too bad they won’t do the same at theme parks here in Orlando. Seriously every five steps there is someone with a selfie stick stopping in the middle of your pathway taking a group selfie….wait for it… vacation groups of 30 or more. Yup! So if you are planning on going to any of these huge music festivals make sure to read what you are allowed in and time to take your old school camera and selfies. Although you can choose to actually pay attention for your money’s worth to every performance that hits the stage instead of taking photos of your flower crown and Kylie Jenner’s lips.

Kylie

Listen I love selfie sticks when I am with a group of friends hanging out but a couple of minutes not as a whole day thing. Now I love the idea of having a selfie stick or a GoPro for concerts and festivals if you are really short like me and you can’t see crap. But at the same time I understand how annoyed I get when I have someone in front or behind me with a selfie stick in small amount of personal space. I feel invaded and with the amount of heat we get here in Orlando on the summer time I would hate to be in a music festival with sweaty people touching my skin as they take a selfie. Imagine trying to enjoy a performance by Hozier or Fall Out Boy and have someone in front of you with a selfie stick in the middle of your favorite performances not letting you enjoy watching your singers or bands. I would and will throw a fit with how expensive these tickets are, are you kidding?  And the reasoning for this action :selfie sticks obscured the view for other people in the crowd, noting the increased amount of sticks in the crowd in music festivals. Like some people like to call them selfish sticks.  Because they make you take up a lot more space in a crowded place than you should invading other people’s personal space.

What are your thoughts?

[LISTEN TO THIS] London Grammar

16/03/3015

London Grammar is a British band leaded by vocals from Hannah Reid, keyboard Dot Major and guitarist Dan Rothman. The band’s sound comes off as secretiveness, quietly dramatic, and almost haunting very easily compared to Florence and The Machine.  Hannah’s strong vocals are full of power yet gentle enough to make you feel the power behind each word of their lyrics.  Their tracks are as song-like as they are showcases for gentle digital rhythms. Their songs are based on the raw emotions of life experiences collaborated by all three band members. Their album “If You Wait” was released September 10, 2013 in the .U.S.A. and it debuted at number two the UK Albums Chart with first-week sales of 33,130 copies. Meanwhile in 2015 it peaked at 91 in the .U.S. Billboard.

The Big O Music Festival is definitely a start to what could possibly be the next alternative version of Coachella Festival to say least. The festival took place at the Central Florida Fairgrounds in Orlando on Sunday December 7th from eleven o ‘ clock presented by Orlando’s new alternative station X 107.3 FM. They had three stages all together sponsored by the Jagermeifer, Axis Local Noise, and the main stage Monster Energy. General Admission started at $39.50 and VIP: $89.50

The Big O definitely brought an all time lineup from performances of bands like Felicity,The New Politics, J. Roddy, Bear Hands, Big Data, Dirty Heads, Young The Giant  to legendary bands like Weezer and since 2009 Fall Out Boy!

Concert Review: Blake Shelton – Ten Times Crazier Tour & Dan+Shay Experience.

BACK STORY: Surprising Mom!

10644019_697061297045064_23490904_n

Back in January my mother’s birthday came around and I really had no idea what to get her. She was driving me insane with how much she loves The Voice and how she could watch it a thousand times as long as they kept Blake Shelton on the panel. I, in the other hand agreed with her to watching all seasons as long as they kept my “boyfriend” Adam Levine. So as mother and daugther we have a tradition of watching The Voice now. Then one day I told her “Mom, I swear if Blake Shelton ever comes to a concert I will buy you Meet & Greet Passes just to see your reaction if you meet him” and laughed it off. Her on the other hand stared at me “Really? I don’t know how would I event start speaking to him”. But that’s when I realized that could always be a good idea for a gift. So as a totally amazing daugther right? I went online and search for Blake Shelton Tour Dates and I saw that Orlando was listed for his recent Ten Times Crazier Tour. The tickets were not on sale yet so I had to subscribe for the special pre-sale code. Three days later my mom tells me we are going out of town to visit family and that we were leaving at the same time and day as the tickets went on sale. I panicked and try to stall so I could purchase the tickets away from her. But we had to leave and I had no access to the internet so I tried downloading the Livenation/ Ticketmaster app but it wasn’t working on my phone. So I emergency texted my two older cousins so they could buy the pair of tickets but they were unavailable. I freaked out and while my mother was driving I was trying to keep it together while watching the tickets slowly being taken away from my hold. Finally by a miracle I get enough WiFi to score the tickets but it was too late for the Meet & Greet Packages. But thankfully I got us close enough and the results on August 30th, 2014 were totally worth it. Because I had the chance to repay my mother a little bit back for all the things she has done for the both of us. Yeah sounds cliche but there was no better feeling than seeing her get all emotional and excited like a total fan girl when she found out I got her tickets to see her favorite country singer and man Blake Shelton. She even teared up. THE FEELS!

CONCERT TIME:

Held on August 30th, 2014 at the Amway Centre in Orlando, Florida.

Opening Acts: Neal McCoy,Dan & Shay, and The Band Perry.

shelton1.jpg

Neal McCoy was the Host & Entertainer from beginning, middle, and end of the show. He knew how to keep everyone entertained as he performed various songs with his band as well as paying tribute to Michael Jackson. He was very funny and a pleasure to listen to.

Dan and Shay is Nashville’s new duo Dan + Shay (consisting of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney) who took the stage and rocked out to songs off of their album “Where It All Began”. Their original sound of a mix between rock/pop and country. Its like Rascal Flatts ,One Republic, and Usher meets Lady Antebellum. They are very talented they sound so amazing and flawless live its like listening to their album with more adrenaline and passion. I definitely see a bright future ahead full of more albums and success for this group.  Some of my favorite songs that they performed are “Stop, Drop,& Roll”, “Show You Off”, and “I Heard Goodbye”. They are both very handsome and their voices are perfectly arranged in pitch, harmony, and eloquently with their lyrics.

10643863_1478645852388994_1127568616_n

After their performance I got a Meet & Greet Bracelet to meet Dan+Shay after the concert ended. I ran up the stairs from were my seats where across the arena and did a line and I made it just in time before they started closing the line up even IF you had your meet & greet pass (which sucked for some fans). They definitely didn’t expect that many fans at their Meet & Greet. I befriended the couple in front of me and made small talk and all of the sudden I saw Dan and I was like “Oh Crap I am going to forget my name” and the lady just laughed at me and said “Oh honey I’ll be right at the exit in case you faint to help you”. I definitely didn’t think I was that nervous but I gathered myself up and when it was my turn I handed my camera to their assistant. Dan said “Hi how are you? Thanks for getting our album” as I handed him my album for him to autograph. I told him my name and somehow I just blurted out “Of course you guys are very talented, and you’re BEAUTIFUL”. As soon as I said it and realized what I just had said I think my face was pretty much flushed red. -_- … like seriously? But Dan was a real sweetheart and in nano seconds was like “No, YOU’RE Beautiful” and smiled and I was like Eeeppp! Total Fan girl Moment right there! So i smiled said thank you and as Shay signed my CD he places it on the table next to him and then surprises himself and says “Oh Wow you really are” and I’m like what just happened?. So I smile trying to get myself together in between these two and ended up in this awesome photo:

Meeting the wonderful Dan + Shay after the concert.

The Band Perry needs no introduction they are one of the most successful bands in Country Music. For those who don’t know much about country music let me give you a quick glance. The Band Perry is a group composed of three siblings Kimberly Perry, Reid Perry, and Neil Perry. They all have vocals and play all kinds of instruments. They released their first self titled album back in October of 2010. Their second album Pioneer was released three years in April 2013 with their number one song “If I Die Young”. The song reached number one on the U.S Billboard Hot Country songs, Hot Adult Contemporary charts, and has been certified quadruple platinum! Some of their top hit songs from their second album also include “Better Dig Two”, “Done”, “Chainsaw”, and “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely”. All of these songs were performed that night and it was incredible. I had never had the chance to see them live and I am so glad I did. They are very humble and they definitely know how to own that stage and keep the crowd wanting more. They graphics in the backdrop screens had really cool lyrics, images of sparrows, and the bands initials “TBP” displaying while they sang different songs.

tbp.jpg

Blake Shelton: The Man Of The Hour!

So by this point as soon as the Blake came out being revealed on the stage as the curtains rise up my mom literally freaked. And that was the best thing ever! See the pic below:

BeFunky_IMG_1919.jpg

blake.jpg

He literally emerged from the top  of a short stairway and performed “All About Tonight”. He is so tall, so handsome, and so humble. He loves to talk a lot and i mean A LOT! But that made the crowd cheer even more and a true connection. He would stop mid sentence and thank everyone for showing up and showing him support. He even made a Twitter joke which was quite funny about how people from the industry thought no one was going to show up but guess what? Orlando represented country music and the love for Blake to a topnotch. One of my favorite songs of course was ‘Kiss My Country Ass”, “Neon Light”, “Footloose”, “Mine Would Be You”, “Boys Round Here”, and the one that broke my heart “Over You”. A song he wrote along with his wife Miranda Lambert after his brother passed away. This song is so emotional and seeing him perform it live left me speechless. Therefore he teared up because it so close to his heart. He also sang his own cover to  Michael Bublé’s “Home” into a lovely country ballad and the crowd made even more lovely when they all lit up the arena with their cellphones.

10624527_663084993787337_1806010033_n

And of course he sang a couple of more upbeat songs before the concert ended. Bottom line all performers were great, very talented, very upbeat, fun, and definitely not my last country concert!! So if you liked this post please give it a LIKE! ❤ thanks for reading!

Love Always,

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT : MEET Alonso Solorzano

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: MEET ALONSO SOLORZANO.

By: Evetzie – Evetzie’s Repertoire: Fashion, Beauty,& Style!
Alonso new3

As most of you may know within my field of broadcasting, I have had one of the greatest opportunity to be working for something that I am so passionate about which is in entertainment and music industry. I am lucky enough to have worked for a local radio station in my city that was holding a local talent search for the next rising star. Many entered and only ten remained to prove that they had what it took to perform on the big stage at House of Blues, Orlando where many popular and talented artist have played. The big prized winner won their first single to be produced by a world known producer, cash prize, and take home the title. But for most of those other contestants who unfortunately did not win the final prize won more than what they bargained for. They won the love and support of a new audience, their voice heard in one of the most amazing venues, and most of all new friendships or collaborations with memories of a lifetime.
IMG_7314

When I first heard of Alonso I had not met him properly but I knew who he was from his audition tape submission, and remembering “Wow! He is really talented”. I stood backstage finally getting a break from all the chaos and I look up and he is sitting there quite quiet but he had this beautiful smile that lit up the whole room. And he definitely didn’t look nervous to me though he had just finish his performance with a song he had composed himself “Don’t Take A No”. As I took my time eating whatever was left for the staff I had a cool conversation with him. He had this cool vibe about him, very down to earth, creative, and very passionate about his music. These are a few of the little things I picked up from him that night, little did I know I would be able to see him perform later on a concert with full on production that he produced on his own time and his team. This show titled “MY JOURNEY” was held on June 21st where he took the audience on a journey of his life from the very moment he realized that music was his passion to the up and downs of his life and making a name for himself in the music industry. I will be posting more about this event on an upcoming post later on.
IMG_7309
Alonso Solorzano
is a pop, local artist here in Orlando, FL with Mexican roots. He recently discovered about probably three years ago that music was one of his biggest passion and that it was time to pursue it, even though he has been singing for a little while now. But his family is extremely supportive of him and his music. “They may sometimes think i am crazy for doing the things i do and say but its all a part of being an individual and expressing yourself with the love of your life, which mine is music.” he expressed.

His music is mainly in the pop genre but he is personally influenced with all kind of genres. He believes that mixing one genre with others is more fun as it gives him more freedom to explore other sounds and challenge himself as an artist. Not to mention that he is so passionate about his music he wants to keep it fresh, and modern for his audience. His music is inspired by and I quote” Whatever is in my head at the moment, usually something that has clearly impacted my life, in some sort of way. I love to be passionate about everything I do as an artist.”

When asked about how can his fans or new listeners could relate to his music he said its because “I am not that much of a social person outside of my music, so sometimes when I do write I think to myself… Is this what people my age are going through/thinking….? but then I realize that we all go through similar battles in life, and the recent songs I have written were lyrics I needed to hear from someone when I went through a rough patch, example my single “Don’t Take a No” is a song I feel written not necessary by me, but my conscious telling me to never take a no, telling me that it is ok to fail as long as Ii stand back up stronger. I have met so many local artist and people who have been neglected in the industry or in their profession and I want to be that voice to help them. My goal when I started taking music seriously was not for fame or anything but to be able to have a voice and share with people my life experience to make them realize they are not alone.”

alonso
He hopes to have much success and hope that his audience will love the music he has worked really hard to create being that the music industry is such a competitive industry to break into. “I think for an artist it is very important to get to know yourself as the artist you were created to be and have discovered in yourself in order to find that success we as artist really need to feel.”

He has an EP coming out very soon with a couple of songs that he is really passionate about which are “Looking For You”, “Don’t Take a No”, “Unforgivable”, and his brand new single “Monster” . When I asked if he had to pick one song that would be his favorite or represented him more as an artist he replied by saying “If I HAD to pick one, I wouldn’t say as my Favorite, but the one that changed my way of thinking about music and life it would be Don’t Take a No, This song made me so much stronger, and it made me find myself as an artist and person.”

IMG_7176
Things you should be ON THE LOOKOUT from Alonso are that as of right now he has accomplished more than he could have imagined!

But he is also recently in the midst of finishing the latest recording for his fourth song on his EP. He will also be releasing his brand new single to “Monster” that will play around with a mix of sounds in the Pop/Rock/Electronic genre. Which is a track he feels the best work yet that his team and him has created by declaring that its his best work yet!

He is also in the process of creating a music video for his ballad “Unforgivable” , which is absolutely hands down an amazing song personally I think everyone should listen to. But he definitely is not waving goodbye any chances to perform on stage even if he is focused on the production side of his music as I quote him “As far as shows, right now I am focused on this new single, but if the opportunity comes to perform I will take it. Performing is my favorite thing to do.”
As a composer he has been influenced by great singers like Michael Jackson, John Lennon, and Justin Timberlake just to name a few. But he also gets inspired by life and moments that impact them. Some of his wildest collaborations he would love to work with if given the opportunity would be John Legend, Christina Aguilera, One Republic, Lady Gaga, Usher, Coldplay, just to name a few. He would also love the chance to play his music anywhere he loves and enjoys performing no matter where he is at as long as he gets to take the stage and give you his all.

” I want to show people who I AM as an artist to begin with, I want them to know EVERYTHING I put out is ME. No one is controlling me, telling me what to do, etc. I work so hard for what I have accomplished at a short period of time, and when people listen to me or watch me perform I want them know that it is all part of me. its not an act.”

I played FUN FACTS from ALONSO and this are some cool insider for his future fans to know 😉

What embarrassing songs might I find on your MP3 player?
Let me look…..Heartbreaker by Justin Bieber….? lol! I thought it was a pretty good R&B song when it first came out.

Have you ever thought of the fact that If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing?
Yes, I would probably be in school for the rest of my life trying to become a Veterinarian, or actually be a wild spirit do Wild Life photography.

If you could dabble in another genre of music, what would it be?
R&B, or maybe just Acoustics.

Do you have any hidden talents you would like to share besides signing, and playing the guitar?
I Play Tennis, at one point I wanted to be a Professional Tennis player, and I also teach it.

Do you get nervous before every show?
I get REALLY nervous, My hands sweat, My legs get so heavy I feel like I can even walk. But when I get on stage it all goes away completely.
What has been so far your favorite experience in your music career even if its just starting out or if you have been in it in the long run?
My Favorite Experience was being able to create my own show called MY JOURNEY. A set list of a 11 songs, dancers, props…etc. It was my proudest moment, being able to show everyone in the audience that with just passion and creativity you are able to create something big on your own.

What fashion trends or style has in influenced your personal style?
Well my personal style ranges depending on how I feel or where I am going I like to play with my look. But I feel like an artist I constantly have to see change. Well at least I do. I am very influenced by the “Rocker” look, something stepping out of the norm of what a typical male pop singer wears. Pushing style to the next level whether people like it of not. When performing I am aware the audience is not only listening to my music, but they are also watching me, so what I wear on stage has a lot to do with the theme of my performance that day. And a little insider…. I am a little weird…. when I know I have a performance one day, I dress and get my mind in a “Performer” state, where I feel like I am in the performance from the moment I wake up and step out of my room. ha ha. it works. 😉
